The Victoria and Albert Museum in UK is exhibiting some of the finest collections from the Maharaja's of India in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s spectacular new exhibition, “Maharaja: The Splendor of India’s Royal Courts”. This exhibition spans the period from the beginning of the 18th century to the mid-20th century, bringing together over 250 magnificent objects, many being lent from India’s royal collections for the first time. It examines the changing role of the maharajas within a social and historical context and reveals how their patronage of the arts, both in India and Europe, resulted in splendid and beautiful objects symbolic of royal status, power and identity. Indore's Maharaja is also a part of this exotic exhibition where Nawabs, Ranas, Maharajas share the stage. Atlong with the Rolls-Royce of other Maharaja's, a special part are the saris influenced by Parisian haute couture and photographs of the Maharaja of Indore and his wife taken by Man Ray (c.1930). From exotic magnificence to surrealist chic, this exhibition is quite a magnificient journey. To find out more about this exhibition you may visit the (Indore) Maharaja Exhibition site here.
