Bone treatment in children with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is caused by non progressive lesion in central nervous system causing disorder of movement & posture. Most of the children suffers with spasticity and decrease in power to attain milestones. It causes difficulty in standing and walking, walks with heels off, knee and hip bend, scissoring and then crooked spine. Many centres believe that treatment is only antispasticity drugs and physical therapy. But researches have shown that since spasticity is their for life and child requires lot of efforts, motivation and time to overcome spasticity, only physical therapy delays improving power and sustaining it and child starts becoming crooked with difficulty in standing with heels on the ground, keeping hip and knee straight and preventing spine from deforming. These children from their early life needs to be assessed and kept under supervision of Paediatric Orthopaedic specialist who looks after particular deforming group of muscle and suggest treatment, which help to maintain normal skeleton and attain power in growing years. He advices the ways like when child needs Inj Botulinum toxin, Surgery and orthotics. The understanding of alignment of joint is important because child of today is adult of tomorrow. If child is n ot managed effectively he will develop contractures of muscles, dislocation of joint and deformity of bones. Early intervention is therefore important to increase power and help children to stand and take weight with heel on ground, knee and hip straight with no scissoring.
