                                            TECHNICHE 2009

3rd-6th September, 2009

Techniche, the annual techno-management fest of IIT-Guwahati, has successfully completed ten years of running, and with engines working under full steam for its tenth edition, it’s poised to take the techno-world by storm. Techniche ’08 was a success in every sense of the word. With events ranging from the universally appealing robotics, to ‘mysterious’ events like the forensics-based Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Techniche had it all. Participation came from almost all the national engineering and management institutes of repute, like the NITs and other IITs and IIMs. Online events like Arbit, Ikaaru and Virtual Stock Market witnessed more than 70,000 clicks in its first hour! A very brief synopsis of some of our very popular events.

ROBOTICS: This competition has been the most popular event of Techniche for years. The following events were organized under this banner: Badge of Honour, the manual robotics event which witnesses the maximum participation. RGB and Autonomous Robotics events, the semi autonomous and fully autonomous robotics events respectively, where the robot is completely program-controlled and will receive no help from the participants and the new kids on the block: On the Spot robotics is a massive crowd puller. This time the module widens its scope enclosing many new events.

ONLINE EVENTS A utopia for all the gaming lovers and puzzle solvers. With participation in hundreds from all over the country and abroad (winner of Arbit in Techniche ’07 was from Tsinghua University, Beijing) One of our most prized events- and all a participant requires is a computer with an internet connection! This time it goes more hi tech with competitions like Chakravyuh, Ikaaru, Byte Code, Digital Fortress, and Blue Battle.

Other attractions include the MANAGEMENT MODULE, AFTER THE SUNSET and PRADARSHINI  which hosts major and cutting innovations in technology. The new FUNNICHE  gives  fun a new definition with many wonderful new events.

GYAN SANCHAR

Apart from the competitions we also have Gyan Sanchar under which we will be conducting workshops & lectures by prominent names in the industry and education sector. Last year we had lectures by Mr. Prabhu Chawla, Dr. C. Mohan, Dr. John Mather (Senior Astrophysicist and Goddard Fellow, NASA; 2006 Physics Nobel Prize awardee) and by Mr. Michel Danino, a French author who participated in the translation and publication of the works of Sri Aurobindo and of The Mother.

This time there is much more to offer as we have lectures from Mr. Franck Wilczek (Physics Nobel Laureate, 1996), Douglas Osheroff (Physics Nobel Laureate, 2004), Stuart Parkin (IBM Fellow, Director, IBM-Stanford Science and Application Centre), Adam Cheyer (Founder, Vice-President, Siri Inc), Shekhar Dattatri (Wildlife Film-maker, Rolex Award Winner), Agatha Sangma (Lawyer, Environmentalist, Youngest ever Member of Parliament), Director (Defense Research and Development Organization).

Technothlon:

We say with extreme pride that we are the only IIT who conduct an event of this magnitude for school students of grade 9-12! Technothlon has become an alias for an event which serves as an able platform to expose the innovation and creativity of a student in all its rawness. But only the best get to make it to IIT Guwahati  is decided on the basis of an All India Preliminary exam to be conducted on the 19th July 2009 at about 60 centers across the country with an expected participation of more than 1 lakh students across the country (15000+ students registered already!)

Jaagore election awareness:

Janaagraha is a non-profit organization that works with citizens and their governments to improve the quality of life in our cities and towns. Janaagraha has worked consistently to address issues of urban governance.

We Care: This is IITG reaching out, for all those that feel deprived. During Techniche’s decade edition, we organised a blood donation camp so that we could give something back to the society. Under this initiative a village called ‘Kattin Pahad’ with a population of just over 700 has been adopted by IITG to bring a ray of hope back into the lives of those who just barely manage to earn a living.
